Although you see alot of hustle going on, it’s highly doubtful that Citigroup or Merril Lynch are going to fold just because of subprime. You may see heads rolling (CEO’s), but this won’t stop them. Many firms are routing their investments into super conduits hoping to weather the storm rather than take straight write offs.

Try monitoring this website. It has a list of the unfortunate companies that have closed their doors, ones that are struggling and a small list of ones who say they are barely being affected. There are also daily informative news articles posted regarding this mess. I have not found a list that you ask for, and believe me….. I have been looking. I am currently unemployed due to this mess.

Regional or state banks that keep their loan portfolio in-house are the safest. In NJ, Hudson City Savings Bank keeps all their loans and doesn’t sell any sub-prime mortgages.
